Galion welcomes Melisa Watters as new Primary School Principal

August 10, 2017

The Galion City School District is excited to welcome and introduce the new Principal at the Galion Primary School, Mrs. Melisa Watters.

Mrs. Watters earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and received her Master of Education in Educational Administration from Ashland University.

“It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that we move into a new year at Galion Primary,” said Watters. “I am honored to work alongside an extremely dedicated staff and an amazing community to provide the best possible education for our students.”

Mrs. Watters began her career after college at Western Elementary School in Lexington, where she taught third and fourth grade. As a teacher, she served on several district-level leadership committees during her 15 years at Lexington.

“My goal as building principal is to provide the leadership that will create a safe and nurturing learning environment for all stakeholders,” said Watters. “I strongly believe in taking the time to know students individually in order to help them reach their true potential.”

Most recently, Mrs. Watters served at the Elementary School Principal in Crestline. During her 4 years at Crestline, she helped the district’s Preschool program earn the 5-star Step Up to Quality status and increased family engagement and involvement by offering more afterschool family activities, just to name a few.

“We are excited to welcome Mrs. Watters to the Tiger Family,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “Melisa brings a wealth of knowledge and successful educational experience to our district, and I’m excited to see how she works with our staff, students and families to continue the Primary School’s positive growth.”

The first day of school for all Galion students and staff is Monday, August 21. The Primary School Open House will begin at 4:00 p.m. for preschool and kindergarten students, and continue from 4:45 to 6:00 p.m. for first and second grade students Thursday, August 17.

Those with back-to-school questions for the Primary School are encouraged to call the building office at 419-468-4010.
