Galion Board of Education approves new Middle School Principal
The Galion City School District Board of Education approved the employment of Mr. Paul Wheeler as the new Galion Middle School Principal during the regular board meeting July 17. Mr. Wheeler replaces Mr. Joe Morabito, who accepted a similar position in another school district.
“Mr. Morabito was an invaluable asset in the Middle School and its positive development of Galion students, and we wish him all the best,” Galion Superintendent Jim Grubbs said. “We are excited to have the ability to move Mr. Wheeler into this position to continue the positive programs and initiatives taking place at Galion Middle School.”
Prior to his appointment as the Middle School Principal, Mr. Wheeler served as the Director of Federal Programs for the Galion City School District. Prior to joining Galion, Mr. Wheeler served as an Assistant Principal and a building Principal.
“Mr. Wheeler does an amazing job working with students,” Grubbs said. “He has had a strong desire to return to a building level administrative position and he will do a great job!”
The board, earlier in the meeting, recognized five current and former Galion student-athletes who earned All-Ohio honors during the 2018 State Track meet in May. Marissa Gwinner (2nd place-high jump; 7th place-4X100 relay), Bri Streib (5th place-discus), Kerrigan Myers (6th place-100M hurdles; 7th place-4X100 relay), Jalyn Oswald (7th place-4X100 relay) and Brooklyn Cosey (7th place-4X100 relay) all received commendations from the Board of Education for their outstanding achievements.
“The Galion athletic programs have enjoyed great success over the past several years at all levels,” Grubbs said. “I want to congratulate these five student-athletes and their coaches, as well as all Galion coaches and student- athletes, on an outstanding 2017-2018 athletics season.”
The board accepted a donation from the Galion Gridiron Club for the $3,000.00. The donation will be used to purchase weight room equipment.
The board recessed to executive session and came out of the session to approve the final agenda item. The next regular meeting of the Galion City School District Board of Education will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Galion Middle School computer lab Tuesday, August 21.
