Galion Homecoming festivities kick off Oct. 11
Galion High School students gear up for the annual Homecoming festivities every fall. This year is no exception with a full slate of activities for students, alumni and the community.
Activities begin with a Homecoming Pep Rally and Bonfire, starting at approximately 6:50 p.m., at the football practice fields behind Unckrich Stadium Oct. 11. The Connections Weekend Career Day at the Galion Middle School will be held throughout the school day Oct. 12. Galion alumni will share their career experiences and insights with middle school students in small group settings.
Later that evening, the 2018 Galion Homecoming Queen will be announced prior to kickoff of the varsity football game against North Union Oct. 12. The Galion Alumni Band will perform with the Tiger Marching Band during halftime, and Alumni Cheerleaders will be cheering on the Tigers with the Varsity cheerleading squad.
“Galion Middle School students have a tremendous opportunity to network with alumni during Career Day thanks to the tireless work of Connections Weekend committee and the staff that assist in this event,” Middle School Principal Paul Wheeler said. “We are very fortunate to have alumni who not only enjoy coming home to Galion but are proud to come back and work with our students to help them in their future endeavors.”
The Homecoming festivities conclude for alumni with the annual Alumni Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony. This year’s class includes: Horace Freese (Industrialist/Philanthropist), Michael Jokerst (Class of 1975), Paul Kim (Class of 1979), Mark Stepro (Class of 2000), John Swain (Class of 1955, posthumously), Van Wagner (Class of 1979) and George Guins (Educator/Coach). The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Galion Middle School cafetorium Saturday, Oct. 13.
“Homecoming Weekend is a very special time for our students, staff and community,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “School spirit is at its highest during homecoming week and we hope our community will get involved in the celebration!”
The Homecoming festivities will conclude for high school students with the annual Galion Homecoming Dance Oct. 13 in the Galion High School gymnasium.
