GMS student qualifies for Tri-County Spelling Bee
Galion Middle School sixth grade student Jillian Capretta will represent the Galion City School District during the Tri-County Spelling Bee at 6:30 p.m. at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center (MOESC) Thursday, Feb. 14.
Capretta qualified for the advanced level competition by finishing in the Top 12 of the Crawford County Spelling Bee at Bucyrus High School Jan. 10.
“Our students worked diligently to prepare for the Crawford County Spelling Bee,” said Leanna Ferreira, Gifted Coordinator. “Jillian has been studying diligently to further develop her spelling skills for the regional competition at MOESC.”
Capretta said she was surprised to qualify for the spelling bee and is very excited to compete and represent Galion Middle School. She said her studying strategy is a simple one. “I just memorize lists of words and I have my family quiz me on them to see if I can spell them,” she explained.
“I want to commend our students, along with Mrs. Ferreira on a great job preparing for the county spelling bee,” said Jim Grubbs, Galion Superintendent. “We are excited for Jillian in the Tri-County Spelling Bee at MOESC and wish her all the best in the competition.”
