Letter to Galion City Schools families about the 2020-2021 school year

July 2, 2020

Dear Galion families,

As many of you are now aware Ohio Governor Mike DeWine released specific details of the State’s return to school plan during a press conference Thursday, July 2. The plan provides guidance on best practices that all Ohio school districts are expected to follow as they consider educational and programming options for the fall.

During his address, the Governor provided several key points that we must consider locally as we make decisions that will impact our students, families, and staff members. Several of the Governor’s guiding points included:

  • Continually assess students and staff for potential symptoms of COVID-19
  • Wash & sanitize hands to prevent the spread
  • Increased measures to clean & sanitize the school environment
  • Strive to practice social distancing
  • Implementation of a face mask/coverings policy

We have been working diligently for weeks to formulate several draft plan options in anticipation of this afternoon’s announcements. These drafts have included information provided by our own Galion families through several different surveys at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Now that these parameters and guidelines have been provided to us, we will immediately begin to finalize our plans for the Galion City Schools.

I understand the difficulty that this delay has caused our families with respect to planning. Additionally, I recognize that many of our students and families still feel uneasy about returning in the fall. I can assure you that our plan will include multiple options for families to consider.

In the coming days and weeks, we will begin to publicly announce our plan and will seek your feedback regarding its components.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we continue working through this challenging process.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Allerding, 2020-2021 Superintendent
