Galion Homecoming festivities kick off October 14
Every fall, Galion High School students gear up for the annual Homecoming festivities, and this year is no exception with a full slate of activities for students, alumni, and the community.
Activities begin with a Homecoming Pep Rally and Bonfire, starting at approximately 6:50 p.m., at the football practice fields behind Unckrich Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 14. The Connections Weekend Career Day at the Galion Middle School will be held throughout the school day on Friday, Oct. 15. Galion alumni will share their career experiences and insights with high school and middle school students in small, intimate group settings.
Later that evening, the 2021 Galion Homecoming King and Queen will be announced prior to the kickoff of the varsity football game against Lima Central Catholic on Oct. 15. The Galion Alumni Band will perform with the Tiger Marching Band during halftime, and Alumni Cheerleaders will be cheering on the Tigers with the Varsity cheerleading squad.
“Galion students have an amazing opportunity to network with alumni during Homecoming thanks to the tireless work of our Connections Weekend committee,” Galion Superintendent Jennifer Allerding said. “We are very fortunate to have alumni who not only enjoy coming home to Galion but are proud to come back and work with our students to help them in their future endeavors.”
The Homecoming festivities conclude for alumni with the annual Alumni Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony. This year’s class includes Dr. Gene Bosler (Class of 1961), Mrs. Martha Belle Boyd (Class of 1916, posthumously), Mr. Lupe Campo (Class of 1973), Mrs. Mary Court (Class of 1961), Mr. Chet Foraker (Class of 1954), Ms. Debra A. Garverick, Esq. (Class of 1976), and Mr. Max Ness (Class of 1961). The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Galion Middle School cafetorium Saturday, Oct. 16.
Other activities taking place during Homecoming weekend include the annual Galion Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at Galion Intermediate School and the Galion Community Center YMCA 5K on the district’s campus. Both events are being held on Saturday, Oct. 16.
“Homecoming Weekend is a very special time for our students, staff, and community,” Allerding said. “School spirit is at its highest during homecoming week and we hope our community will get involved in the celebration!”
The Homecoming festivities will conclude for high school students with the annual Galion Homecoming Dance Oct. 16 in the Galion High School gymnasium.
