Galion High School senior Simon Shawk was selected as the Crawford County winner of the Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award, presented by Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center on March 16. Shawk carries a 4.0 GPA at Galion High School and is on track to graduate with both his high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree from The Ohio State University in May.
Galion Middle School eighth-grader Cohen Pierce has earned the opportunity to compete for a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition on March 27. This year’s Ohio Virtual Regional Spelling Bee will feature the top 50 spellers from around the Buckeye state, which includes Pierce.
The Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio's Crawford County Mobile Drive-Thru Pantry event will be held on the Galion City Schools campus on Wednesday, March 31.
Fifth-grade students at Galion Intermediate School wanted to help serve their community and decided on a service project for the Humane Society Serving Crawford County.
Galion School Resource Officer Ralph Burwell wanted to do something to help raise awareness about buckling up among students in the Galion City Schools. The Galion FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) chapter developed a safety plan with the same goal in mind. The students and Officer Burwell partnered up and “Buckle Up Bracelets” were born.
Kindergarten registration for the Galion City Schools will begin March 1 and continue through April 13. Parents interested in enrolling their child for the 2021-2022 school year should do so throughout the month of March. Any child five-years-old on or before Aug. 1, 2021, is eligible to apply.
