The health and safety of our students, families, and staff is of the utmost concern.  With the goal of minimizing exposure, the District has been has been working in collaboration with and guidance provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Ohio Department of Health, Galion City Health Department, and the Ohio Department of Education. Decisions regarding closings and cancellations of current events and upcoming events are and will be made based on the health and safety of all.

This is a rapidly changing situation.  We will continue to respond to the guidance and directives of the above organizations.

What is the plan for GHS Prom?

Just as Graduation is an important event for our students, we recognize that Prom is also an event that many look forward to. We know that the Governor is making decisions and additional information will be coming out in the near future that will assist in our decision making process.

Although a traditional Prom is not a possibility at this time, the district is currently working on options to provide an experience for our Seniors and potentially one guest, if restrictions allow. The decision to make this a Senior event was made in order to keep numbers down with the social distancing requirements. We are sad that Juniors will not attend but know that they will have the opportunity to attend Prom in their Senior year.

We will be working in collaboration with the Ohio Health Department to look at options as to how we can provide an experience for our students. The date for this event is scheduled for June 12, 2020. Our goal is to ensure a safe, non-traditional, and unique experience for our Seniors.  More information will be provided by GHS in May as to the details of the event. Please note that guidelines are constantly changing and decisions will be made with the safety of our students being our number one priority.

What is the impact on Spring athletics?

All OHSAA – sponsored Spring sports seasons including tournaments have been cancelled. There is currently a no-contact period in effect through at least May 3, 2020.

How will students be educated while buildings are closed?

GMS/GHS: We have worked with teachers and principals to determine the best way to educate students.  Our middle and high school teachers are continuing to developing on-line resources and lessons for students. Canvas is a regular part of our instructional resources at the secondary level. Canvas allows our teachers to provide instructional virtually.  Teachers are sending out announcements and uploading assignments so student should check their accounts daily.  HS/MS teachers have office hours established on a weekly basis.  These times are being communicated to students through Canvas. Students will continue as they have the past few weeks.

GPS/GIS: Parent letters with detailed instructions and information can be found at:

/covid-19/gisgps-learning-from-home There is a tab for each building information.

Teachers in grades PK-5 have made personal calls home already and will continue.  Weekly communication will take place by phone call, email, and through the format your child’s teacher
