About the Program
The ROAR program at GMS offers students a variety of academic supports and youth enrichment activities. We offer homework assistance and tutoring in specifically Math and English Language Arts. Our ROAR program also utilizes a learning assessment software called Moby Max to identify any learning gaps and help students fill in those areas for growth. Additionally, we offer STEAM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and interactive games. Once per week, our students get a little taste of robotics with the use of Sphero robots and interactive Sphero mats.
This year we are also introducing 21st Century Skills lessons that explore college readiness and financial literacy, digital citizenship, and social-emotional learning. Furthermore, twice per week our students engage in random acts of kindness which promote empathy, compassion, and consideration for all people.

About the Program
Our morning and afternoon ROAR program at the Galion Intermediate school offers students Math and ELA supports and interventions. We also utilize a learning assessment software called Moby Max to identify any learning gaps and help students fill in those areas for growth. In addition, we offer leadership sessions, writer’s workshops, book club, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) explorations, educational games, and community connections.
In our Leadership sessions, our students have the opportunity to expand upon their Leadership Notebooks. They fill these with activities that dive into their personal well-being, life skill development, and goal setting. In addition, our students have the opportunity to exemplify their leadership skills through our partnership with Safety Patrol. Finally, to ensure our tigers grow up to be mindful and self-aware leaders, our tutors introduce them to social-emotional learning lessons and activities and encourage them to practice mindfulness and self-care.
In our Community Connections sessions, our students learn how to positively contribute to their local community (school, city, etc.). In these engaging sessions, they participate in Service-Based Projects that allow them to collaborate between school buildings and with community partners. Furthermore, twice weekly, we focus on Random Acts of Kindness activities which promote empathy, compassion, and consideration for all people.
Attendance in our ROAR program at the Intermediate School is not mandatory but highly encouraged. ROAR students who regularly attend ROAR will be rewarded with various prizes and fun field trips.
Enrollment in morning and afternoon ROAR is limited to qualifying intermediate students. To see if your child qualifies and if there are spots available, please call the intermediate building or the program site-coordinator.

In our morning and afternoon ROAR program our Galion Primary students get to participate in several fun and educational activities centered around Literacy, Math, Writing, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
Our dedicated and highly qualified tutors lead engaging ROAR sessions like Proactive Planning, Roar Readers, Math Masters, Writer’s Workshop,
Kid Kindness, and Playground Plays.
Our youngest tigers start their ROAR sessions by checking and organizing their school supplies. They practice positive routines by reviewing ROAR rules and activities they will participate in. During their academic sessions, our students practice their reading, writing, and math skills in fun and engaging ways by using various resources ranging from reading and activity books, personal journals and handouts, interactive educational games on their iPads, board games, and fun videos.
Once per week, our little tigers practice random acts of kindness which promote empathy, compassion, and consideration for their peers, teachers, family members, and community in general. Finally, our tigers always end their ROAR sessions with our Playground Plays activities which include creative art projects, music and movement, structured and unstructured free play.
Through our established community partnership with the Galion Public Library, our Primary students and families occasionally enjoy a visit from the Children’s Librarian who leads family reading circles and reading activities. Furthermore, two times per year ROAR students and families have an opportunity to participate in family engagement events like cookie, tile or ornament decorating, math and literacy nights.
