Galion City Schools believes in providing a supportive, socially conscious, safe, and respectful environment that cultivates learners of tomorrow. Through the ongoing efforts to prioritize safety and improve its current procedures, the district has made significant progress toward the safety objectives outlined in its strategic plan.
In an effort to do so, the Galion City Schools have been actively seeking grant funding to cover the costs of safety improvements and upgrades. Recently, the district was awarded a $20,000 New Safety Innovation Grant through Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost's office. This money is expected to be used for crisis-response technology designed to alert law enforcement of potential safety breaches on school property or other initiatives that would best improve student safety.
Galion has also received two installments from Ohio’s K-12 Safety Grant funding this year, which has allowed the district to strategize and accomplish a variety of safety-related upgrades. These upgrades have included the purchase of a five-year contract for the CrisisAlert System, Centegix; an extended contract for security cameras that replaced the previous aging system; interior door locks/stops; protective window film for interior doors; and STOP THE BLEED® Kits, including staff training on the use of the first-aid.
The Centegix CrisisAlert safety system, installed in December, provides each staff member with a smart CrisisAlert badge allowing the wearer to discreetly activate a security alert. The alert is immediately sent to key personnel and, when received, will vibrate the badge of the staff member who activated the alert. Galion City Schools is the first school district in Ohio to install this safety system.
