With students returning to school this month, it’s time for many families to begin planning for the new school year. On top of those preparations, it’s also important to mark your calendars for important dates and activities before classes begin on Aug. 17. 

Orientation Details

Orientation is an excellent way to get to know one’s way around the school and what is expected of them during the school year, especially for those who are new to Galion City Schools or are in the Galion Early College Academy or Galion Online Academy. 

GECA students will meet in Room 124 on Monday, Aug. 15, for orientation. Juniors will meet 5 – 6 p.m., and Seniors will meet 6 – 7 p.m.

Freshman and new student orientation for Galion High School Orientation will be Tuesday, Aug. 16, when they will receive their schedules and iPads. Students whose last name begins with A – K will meet at 5 – 6:30 p.m., and students L – Z meet at 6:30 – 8 p.m. 

Galion Online Academy orientation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 6 – 7 p.m. in the high school cafetorium. GOA students should pick up their computers on Aug. 11 or 12 and bring them to orientation. 

Open House

This year, Galion will be hosting a district-wide open house for families to meet with teachers and staff, get acquainted with classrooms and buildings, ask questions and receive information for back-to-school. Families & students are encouraged to come at any time during the allotted two-hour slots and visit schools for each student in their household. All schools will host an Open House on Tuesday, Aug. 16. 

Galion Primary School’s Open House will be 4 – 6 p.m. 

Galion Intermediate School will welcome students and their families from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

Galion Middle School & High School will host their Open House 5 – 7 p.m. 

Dress Code

Galion City Schools values our Dress Code for the way in which it enhances the positive image of our students and district. Some important things to remember regarding the dress code: Clothes must be appropriately sized and fitted, meaning baggy, sagging or excessively tight clothing is not permitted; clothing that is distressed or has rips/holes are not to be worn; clothing with profane or obscene pictures/lettering are not allowed; clothing with references to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, firearms or related material is also prohibited. 

The approved colors for shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, fleece tops and scarves include plain blue, orange, white/off-white, gray and black. For all bottoms, the approved colors are tan, dark blue and black. Denim, jeans, sweats, tights, yoga pants, leggings or windbreaker pants are not allowed. Students are also encouraged to wear Tiger spirit wear. 

First Day of School

The first day of school for Galion students is Wednesday, Aug. 17, and don’t forget there is a two-hour delay on our first day. After that, we will return to our regular start & finish times:

High School & Middle School — 7:25 a.m. – 2:25 p.m. *school begins 9:25 on Aug. 17.

Intermediate School — 8:05 a.m. – 3:05 p.m. *school begins 10:05 on Aug. 17.

Primary School — 8:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. *school begins at 10:45 on Aug. 17.
