District Information
PBIS Defined
PBIS is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. It is a tiered systems approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all children by developing research-based, school-wide, and classroom behavior support systems. The process focuses on improving a school’s ability to teach and support positive behavior for all students.
Rather than a prescribed program, PBIS provides systems for schools to design, implement, and evaluate effective school-wide, classroom, non-classroom, and student-specific plans. PBIS includes school-wide procedures and processes intended for all students and staff in all settings. PBIS is not a program or a curriculum. It is a team-based process for systemic problem solving, planning, and evaluation. It is an approach to creating a safe and productive learning environment where teachers can teach, and all students learn.
In 2021 The Galion City School District was proud to be one of only sixteen schools in the State of Ohio chosen to participate in a pilot PBIS program. Within this pilot, our district developed a second leadership team that focused on implementation of a multi-tiered social-emotional, and behavioral system of supports and practices. The District Leadership Team participated in a District Systems Fidelity Inventory (DSFI) to help guide action planning, progress monitoring and annual evaluation of fidelity of implementation and impact for the district.
What this means for the 2024-25 school year and beyond, is that the District Leadership Team will work to ensure that we have consistent social-emotional and behavioral systems and process in place for all students in Preschool through 12th grade.
This team is composed of district administrators, building administrators, behavior specialist, counselors, and parents/community members, and teachers who will meet monthly to work on the district action plan, analyze, and share data.
The overall goal is to align the work done within PBIS with our District's mission statement.
Mission Statement
