Galion City School District had the privilege of hosting Jesse Weinberger, a renowned Internet Safety expert and former software programmer. Her insights were truly eye-opening! Research consistently shows that parental monitoring of children's online activity plays a crucial role in their safety. Jesse emphasized that being vigilant is essential to protect our kids from online predators and harmful content.

As a district, we will continue to prioritize safety, explore the best methods, and ensure that current safety measures are accurately functioning. Friday afternoon (9/1) at approximately 1:30 p.m., Galion City School District will conduct a districtwide lockdown drill to assess the recently installed Centegix CrisisAlert system, which notifies district administrators and first responders in an emergency. This drill will be the first district wide test of the system for the 2023-2024 school year. The Galion Police Department will participate in the exercise to ensure the communication is received and dispatched properly.
Practicing the procedures and systems we have in place ensures that they work as they should. We will continue to communicate with families regarding safety practices and updates to our procedures.

Parents are crucial in preventing possible substance use in their children. Research shows that kids whose parents discuss drug and alcohol dangers with them are 50% less likely to face future issues. Join us tonight, August 16, from 5-7 p.m. for the "Hidden in Plain Sight" event by Marion Crawford Prevention Programs. This interactive program guides parents through a virtual bedroom, highlighting signs of risky behavior and mental health concerns. The event is for parents only.
