Yesterday, during our professional development day, Lieutenant Bourne from Galion City Police Department discussed with our staff safety responses that can be implemented in the event of an emergency and the police department's role in supporting students and staff.

This school year, we will remain focused on what it means to be a Galion Tiger with our newly established Profile of a Tiger. This Profile is a roadmap guiding our district to what we consider to be successful Galion graduates. These values should extend beyond our hallways, classrooms and arenas of competition.
Each month, we will focus on a specific trait in and outside of the classroom, continuing to develop these skills and traits in each and every Galion student. In November, we are discussing what it means to be self-disciplined.
Our students are self-disciplined, engaging in proactive/positive behavior, such as responsibility, structure, routine and choosing how to properly react to situations. Our students are ambitious and driven toward their own goals, ready to persevere when things become challenging.
It’s okay not to be okay. This is a statement often spoken in the world of mental health and a motto that our district has prioritized for our students and staff. This week celebrates school psychologists and their expertise in mental health, learning and behavior to help students thrive academically, socially, behaviorally and emotionally.
Galion Primary and Intermediate students delivered over 4,000 pairs of socks to the homeless shelter in Marion following their ninth annual sock drive in "Socktober." 🧦
During the October Board of Education meeting, the Ohio School Board Association presented BOE member Dennis Long with an award recognizing his dedication and service to the OSBA and its Board of Trustees. The entire board was also recognized for their dedication to education. Thank you for all you do!

Friendly reminder, Tigers! This Thursday and Friday (Nov. 10 and 11), there is no school for students.
This month, we are rolling out a new security measure called CrisisAlert, a product by Centegix that is designed to keep our students, staff and faculty as safe as possible in the event of emergency. CrisisAlert is a school safety system that uses a mobile panic button in a wearable badge that users can easily access when needed. November is National Gratitude Month – a month for us to reflect on the good things in life. We have so much to be grateful for, and we are proud as ever of our Tigers for their enthusiasm, hard work and positivity in the classroom, in their extracurriculars and in the community. We are proud to be Tigers!
The Galion City School District Board of Education began their regular October meeting celebrating our Tigers! The Board recognized four students who have represented resiliency throughout the month of October. Those students were Liam Stitzel, second grade; Megan Bailey, fifth grade; Pheonix Hunter, sixth grade; and Morgan Keener, 12th grade.
In September, Galion City Schools introduced the newly established Profile of a Tiger. Each month the district focuses on a specific trait in and outside of the classroom, continuing to develop these competencies in each and every Galion student. October highlighted the first trait of resilience. On behalf of the Board of Education and Galion City Schools, congratulations to these outstanding students who are helping define what it means to be a Tiger.
In the fall of 2021, Galion City Schools adopted a strategic plan that became a guiding document for our district’s goals.
For 2021-2022, we were rated five out of five stars through the State Report Card in Gap Closing. We continue to develop strategies and review data to ensure our students are receiving the support they need to believe, achieve and succeed and have partnered with local agencies and organizations to provide additional mental health supports and safety training for staff. The Galion City Police Department, for example, worked with our staff to provide additional safety training prior to the start of the new school year. We continue to work with Pioneer Career and Technology Center and have established a new workforce development program where our students complete academic work for half the day and work in the community at local businesses for the other half. Additionally, our younger students are learning foundational skills in leadership through Leader in Me and Lead programming.
Fostering relationships with our alumni, furthering partnerships with our community and providing the highest quality education to our students will continue to drive our goals and initiatives. We look forward to continuing to share progress and updates with you throughout the school year.

GMS held its annual Spooktacular event on Thursday, where the entrance fee was a canned food donation. As a result of the generosity of those in attendance, GMS was able to make a sizable donation to Galion Community Action.

Nationwide Children's and Ohio Children's Trust Fund offer a variety of parenting workshops and information sessions because let's face it, parenting is hard! October is National Bullying Prevention month, which highlights the importance of being an upstander.

The Galion High School Performing Arts Center presents “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon.” With a cast of 25 and backstage crew of 13, the students share a comedic retelling of famous fairy tales with a new twist.
Join us Saturday, October 22, at 7:00 p.m. for opening night or for our encore performance on Sunday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m. Both shows will take place at Galion Community Theatre. Tickets will be available at the door, $10 for adults and $5 for students.
