This is Sarah’s first year with GCSD, and we are excited to have her! Sarah’s willingness to support her students academically, socially, and emotionally is evident in her day-to-day work with our Galion Middle School students. Sarah, thank you for your dedication to our Tigers!

Shout out to the spectacular Galion High School Counselor Amanda Courtright for her tireless efforts to support our students! Amanda is committed to providing a positive school experience that includes plans for after graduation. Thanks, Amanda, for guiding our Tigers down a path toward success!

This week celebrates National School Counselors week! We will highlight our hardworking and dedicated counselors all week long. First up is Galion Primary and Intermediate School Counselor Amy Cline! Amy works tirelessly to ensure our students are supported and have access to resources while providing a whole-child approach to guiding students’ academic experience. Thank you, Amy, for all you do!

As always, the safety of our students and staff is our utmost priority. Tomorrow morning at approximately 9:30 a.m., Galion City School District will conduct a districtwide lockdown drill to assess the newly installed Centegix CrisisAlert system. This drill will be the first districtwide test of the system, which also notifies local first responders. The Galion Police Department will participate in the exercise to ensure the communication is received and dispatched properly.
The Centegix CrisisAlert safety system, installed in December, provides each staff member with a smart CrisisAlert badge allowing the wearer to discreetly activate a security alert. The alert is immediately sent to key personnel and, when received, will vibrate the badge of the staff member who activated the alert.

Galion Police Department, along with Bucyrus Police, Crawford County Sheriff's Office, and Marion County Sheriff's Office, were on campus this morning while the students of Galion High School and Galion Middle School remained in their classrooms receiving instruction during a shelter-in-place. We are so grateful for the support of our first responders in keeping our community safe!

This week, Galion Primary School is celebrating Kindness Week! Every day has a unique theme: Manners Monday, Thank You Tuesday, What I Can Do to Help Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday, and Friendship Friday. The staff and students will participate in different kindness activities focused on making others feel loved and appreciated.
This week, the student lighthouse team will be selling kindness rocks that can be used to send someone a happy thought, keep it for themselves, or place it in the Primary Kindness Garden. Keep being kind, Tigers!

Best of luck to our wrestling team as they compete in the OHSAA dual tournament today! We are looking forward to hosting the MOAC Championship Tournament on the 18th. Go get’em, Tigers!

This February, Galion Primary School is collecting donations for its accident/need totes. Specifically, GPS is looking for the following items:
-Boy’s coats from size 4T-10
-Girl’s coats from sizes 4T-10
-Girl underwear ranging between sizes 4T-10
-Boy or girl tennis shoes or boots from sizes 5-10
GPS keeps a stock of clothing for our students when an accident or need arises. We are incredibly grateful for any contributions made towards these necessary items!

Today marks the 37th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). Through participating in sports, girls can develop confidence, strength, and character, which are necessary tools for becoming successful learners and leaders. Our Lady Tigers have had quite a winter season so far – the girls bowling team is currently first in the MOAC and the girls swim team recently placed in multiple events at the MOAC Championship!
Congratulations to all of our Lady Tigers for an extraordinary 2022-2023 athletics season!

Our ROAR program at the Galion Intermediate School continues to use Active Floor educational games for academic support in Math and ELA (examples of educational games include grade level vocabulary words and meanings, verb tense matching games, math word problems and multiplication practices).
However, we also use Active Floor games for our weekly Playground Play sessions, especially during winter months when the weather might prevent our ROAR staff from taking our students out to our school playground. During those times, our students can still get some physical activity though Active Floor games such as Air Hockey, Soccer, Simon Says, Bike Race, and Splatter Space.

The Galion City Schools will be on a 2-hour delay, Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Please remember on delay days that breakfast will not be served and AM ROAR will not be in session. Stay safe, Tigers!

The Galion City Schools will be on a 2-hour delay today, Monday January 23, 2023.

We are so proud of our spellers! Ayla, Addison, Nakian, Clara Mae and Ramon - congratulations on all of your hard work to prepare for this contest!
Addison placed in the top 15 at the bee and qualified for the Tri-County Spelling at Mid-Ohio ESC on February 9, at 6:30 pm. Best of luck in the next round, Addison!

At January’s meeting, the Board of Education honored four students who have consistently demonstrated the Profile of a Tiger trait, Empathetic. Being empathetic is more than simply agreeing with someone—it’s about understanding and respecting their point of view, even if you don’t necessarily share it. It involves putting oneself in another person’s shoes to gain insight into their feelings and being supportive despite differences. These exemplary learners: Avery - 2nd grade; Rylee - 4th grade; Gavin - 6th grade and Sommar - 12th grade, were recognized for demonstrating this essential life skill! Good work, Tigers!

Today we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and his unwavering dedication towards justice, equality, and peace in our society.

Galion City Schools is proud to announce the installation of the cutting-edge Centegix Education Crisis Alert System! This revolutionary system allows staff to rapidly alert administrators and first responders in an emergency. We are proud to be the first among Ohio school districts to implement this technology, providing additional safety for our students as they return to the classroom.
