Happy Holidays!
Galion High School government classes took a trip to the Ohio Supreme Court yesterday! This field trip gave these juniors and seniors an opportunity to see and understand the work of their elected officials in real-life application. These students have focused on studying the U.S. Government as well as the State of Ohio Government and some Supreme Court Cases throughout the fall semester.

Special Education Day is celebrated to commemorate the signing of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) into law in 1975. IDEA granted children with special needs access to free and quality public education. We are so grateful to all of the educators who continue to provide our students with a meaningful, safe and supportive learning experience.

This school year, we will remain focused on what it means to be a Galion Tiger with our newly established Profile of a Tiger. This Profile is a roadmap guiding our district to what we consider to be successful Galion graduates. These values should extend beyond our hallways, classrooms and arenas of competition. Each month, we will focus on a specific trait in and outside of the classroom, continuing to develop these skills and traits in each and every Galion student. In December, we are discussing what it means to be involved. A Galion Tiger is involved. They display a passion for success within the community through active engagement in service opportunities while also participating in school-related activities to cultivate a sense of Galion Pride.

Galion City Schools purchased new technology in 2022 to provide interactive learning opportunities for Galion students. The new technology, ActiveFloors, reinforces academics in all subject areas while allowing children to get out of their chairs and move. Through a 21st Century Learning Communities Grant, the district has purchased four mobile ActiveFloor units. The Active Floor Units include a mobile box containing a projector, computer, and camera that tracks movement. A white vinyl floor mat is used for maximum visual display of the games. The mat and unit can be moved, allowing any floor space to be used as an interactive, instructional playground - stimulating movement and competition while students learn. Students at Galion Primary, Intermediate and Middle Schools now have access to this multi-sensory tool during their technology and physical education lessons. The ROAR program, the district’s before and after school program, has trained its staff and begun to use the mobile units to provide this immersive educational technology as well.

Today is Substitute Teacher Appreciation Day! Substitute teachers are essential in K-12 education. They serve as educational bridges, providing continuity and making it possible to seamlessly educate students in the absence of regular classroom educators. Substitute teachers make it possible for teachers to get the breaks they need while keeping kids engaged and on track for success. We are grateful for all of our reliable and enthusiastic substitute teachers!

Today 19 professionals from 12 employers visited Galion High School to meet with students in grades 10-12 for Career Exploration Day! Career Exploration Day, organized by Career Coach Beth Hildreth, is a way for our students to explore a variety of different career paths and better understand the field of work or military service commitment. The professionals and experts shared entry-level career options in their fields, opportunities for long-term growth, what they look for when hiring, the benefits and some of the more difficult parts of their jobs. Thank you to all of those who participated in today's event, the Food Service Department for providing lunch for our presenters, and the Industrial Tech class for making them personalized keychains as a token of our appreciation! We are so grateful for your support of our Tigers!
